Knowledge/Awareness is Power.

definetly I will try physiologic sigh. I am practicing breath work a lot in these times, for me too much stressful.

I mind me I can always learn something and be stronger, wiser!

I agree stress is not the problem but how we cope with it! and I am with you around what we can do to improve resiliency : diet, exercise, nature, light, breath, water, blue sky, sleep, true connection, purpose, brain body heart soul nervous system hormones are the instruments of a beautiful orchestra where the best symphony come from an amazing united crew

this is one of my fave post and I will print and hang on my desk side :)))

Knowledge is power, I wanted to know my ApoE3/4 status which motivates me immensely.

Thanks for your work, you are very wise for someone so young ( perhaps as a result of interactions like you describe). Your articles are just the right length and, along with your videos, are very good at explaining complex topics in a fun and understandable way. Much appreciated.

Thanks Nick. Knowledge/awareness is without doubt a gift. Finding out you are APOE4/4 is a huge blow at first as 80% to 90% of 4/4s develop Alzheimer's disease. However, if I had not known this I would almost certainly not taken the targeted actions required to prevent or delay the disease. But I do know, and this has allowed me to follow a precision nutrition and exercise regime targeting the APOE4 biochemical pathways head on. The five years studying functional medicine actually paid off in the end! The knowledge/awareness also informed me that I needed to prioritise and hugely increase my 'health' budget both to monitor progress (testing) and supply interventions in therapeutic doses. It's all about n=1. Finally, the knowledge has let me reach out to other APOE4s and we are going through this adventure together. We are sharing our knowledge.

Rather than saying, "has caused" might consider, "that we now suspect represent some, if not the most major modifiable risk factors contributing to..."

As a retiree I automatically have less stress than I once had, and by and large I'm pretty chill most of the time. The physiologic sigh piques my interest, and I will give it a try. I must also credit Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus and the other stoics for teaching me one of the two most valuable lifestyle interventions of my life (the other being a proper human diet.) Both have, I believe, been responsible for my overall lower stress attitude. #Stay Curious 😀

Ok! I plan to try using the Physiologic Sigh for my N of One experiment. Here is a short video where Andrew Huberman demonstrates this breathing technique: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9JhTMTksk9s

This demonstration seems a bit different from that described in Nick's video. Andrew says "inhale deeply and then inhale again briefly before doing a long exhale".

Better to Choose to commit "...to take every preventative action..." regardless of your DNA to improve your self. No need to worry about things beyond your control. Focus on steps to improve your self without needing to identify risks that may gnaw at you later.

Different strokes for different folks. Knowing your strengths and weakness can help you apply efforts adaptively. And often the adaptiveness of an intervention will be informed by vulnerabilities, since some interventions have pros and cons on different realms of biology or of life.
